So. Here’s this thing I made for my digital darkroom class. The assignment was to take an advertisement for some kind of product, or service and then subvert the message portrayed in the ad using photoshop, with the end result being an Adbusters style anti-ad.
For whatever reason I immediately thought of turning the iconic Absolut bottle into a molotov cocktail- in the style of the “Absolut ________” ad campaign ads.
Ideally we were supposed to find and scan an ad from a magazine for highest possible quality, but I had a great deal of time finding a physical ad for my needs, so I kind of went overboard and did this crazy composite piece.
You can see the original ad, and my version underneath it. I used the same model, and the original bottle from the ad, as well as the closest approximations to Absolut’s custom made fonts that I could find.
for the purpose of the composition of the image, I took some artistic liberties with the placement of the text, so it’s not a full on copy/spoof I guess, but I think I captured the spirit of what was asked for. All of it is important to the overall theme of the Ad, so please take the time to read it if you can. (Hopefully it isn’t too small to read at this resolution.)
Personally, I think the message is pretty clear but during my critique, a few people seemed to be having a hard time grasping the concept I was putting across.
COMMENTS AND CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM WELCOMED AND ENCOURAGED.
